Cultural Immersion in Canyon de Chelly

Lupita is a Force! Lupita McClanahan, or as her people call her, The Girl With The Brown Horse, is a Diné elder and a tribal storyteller. She is kind, genuine and silly. She speaks with intention and power, her emotion coming through in words that are physically felt. And, oh my does she have stories to tell!

Coyote and The Magpie is so honoured to have been invited to bring groups into her tribal homeland in Canyon de Chelly National Monument to be able to spend some time learning from her!! Her strength is unassuming and gentle, her wit is sharp and inviting at the same time. She shows us trails and cliffsides her people have been using for generations. Her connection with home, with nature is awe inspiring… you’re left with a feeling of “Oh wow, I GET IT now”. We are shown traditional games, hear both traditional and personal stories. The stories that are joyous to hear and the stories of her people that we need to hear.
